Local Area Information

La Lombardie is situated on the edge of the lovely village of Drulhe, in a traditional farming area surrounded by fields and woodland.

The local shop is within easy walking distance and has an on-site bakery, fresh fruit, vegetables and basic groceries. The larger village of Lanuejouls is a 10-minute drive away and has a pharmacy, small supermarket with petrol station, hairdresser, various small shops and a bar.

Villefranche de Rouergue, our local town, has many shops and larger supermarkets with a wonderful weekly market selling local produce. It is also a bastide town steeped in history set on the banks of the Aveyron river with a beautiful arcaded square and cathedral. Throughout the year it hosts numerous events including a magnificent firework display on July 14th, 'marche gourmand' with dancing in the summer months and a singing festival in aid of cancer.

There are many places to visit within easy driving distance of Druhle. The Aveyron has 10 of the "plus beaux villages de France" more than any other department in France, including Conques a UNESCO world heritage site, Belcastel, Najac and Espaillon to name but a few.

Further afield are the magnificent Millau viaduct, Micropolis and Roquefort cheese caves.

For the more physically adventurous there are water sports, including canoeing and kayaking on the Aveyron or Lot rivers, fishing, horse riding, golf, or simply walking in the fabulous countryside. We are happy to provide details or help with reservations.

The Aveyron is also for food lovers. Why not try the local speciality, Aligot, a cheesy potato fondue, traditionally made with Laguiole cheese from the Aubrac region? The Aubrac is also renowned for its tender beef from purebred cattle raised on the grassy slopes of the mountains. Aveyron is the home of Roquefort cheese made from a particular breed of sheep's milk in caves in the south.

If you'd like some wine to go with your cheese, we can recommend local wineries to visit and sample the Marcilliac wines of the region, or further afield Gaillac and Cahors are less than an hour away.
